Community Growing Workshop
Enhancing the health and wellbeing of the community by providing a space in which they can grow their own fresh produce

The proposal for the Cultural Pop Up is to create a growing workshop. This is inspired by the Natural Selection exhibition that will be on display within Leeds Art Gallery at the same time as the Pop Up and Play event. The opportunity to give people knowledge and skills that are required to grow their own houseplants will be both educational and a fun activity to get involved in.

The workshop will enable the public to grow their own houseplants such as cress, basil, chives, thyme, and tomatoes. At the end of the workshop the public will be able to take their houseplants away with them after learning how to grow and maintain them. This will encourage people to grow their own locally sourced produce, as well as creating an inclusive activity for the community.

The function of the Pop Up is also to create a transition zone between the public and the art gallery. Through the workshop the public will become more familiar with the art gallery and specifically the Natural Selection exhibition.

After the duration of Pop Up and Play, this structure will be dismantled and relocated to New Wortley where it will be reconstructed as it contributes to the regeneration strategy. This specific structure will be utilised as part of the workshops which is a component of the green infrastructure to be developed throughout the area.
