Invisible- Highlighting the people of New Wortley
Using play as a tool to educate through storytelling
Introduction
This cultural Pop-Up explores key issues within society some more specific to New Wortley than others, the lack of amenities, the high crime rate, the drug issue and mental effect and support. It also explores the solution and aims to help.
New Wortley already has its cure; New Wortley Community Centre (NWCC). It provides everything the community needs and more, but the issue is being visible. The cultural Pop-Up is an extension to the NWCC, it aims to attract those who need support but cannot see it or that don’t have the strength to find the help. We are different but we can all relate.
The pop up is a reflection of the people, no one column is the same, every piece is different and therefore unique in its own right. Angles differ some more awkwardly placed that other, making one slightly turn to enter the space and therefore succumbing to the architecture.

Use
The Pop-Up is a series of platforms that use storytelling as a means to educate and inform people through visuals and sounds (Stories). At first, the platforms may not be telling you a lot; you must explore the pop-up and realise that there are things present, but you just have to look, be a Flâneur. Things may appear invisible, but they are not. They have always been there; you just have to be in the right location or surrounded by the right people. One of the most important elements to this pop up is not itself but the process of piecing it together, the community engagement will empower people and give them ownership of the structure. The structure changes throughout the day, it casts its shadows in different patterns creating different artwork throughout the year, things change and don't always have to stay the same.
Sustainability
All the timber used will be timber that has been harvested responsibly from well-managed forests that are continuously replenished, and that ensures that there is no damage to the surrounding environment.
